Volunteer for the point-in-time homeless count in Saginaw

By La’Niya Jones

SAGINAW – If you are looking to help in your community, sign up to volunteer for the Saginaw Point-in-Time Homeless Count. Led by the Saginaw County Consortium of Homeless Assistance Providers, this event will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Participants will be trained before going out through the day to count and survey individuals and groups staying in emergency shelters, transitional locations, and any other place not meant for habitation. This information will provide an idea of how many people experience homelessness and the characteristics that play into that.

The data collected will help measure homelessness across Michigan and the needs of people experiencing homelessness. All data will be considered to determine what resources need to be distributed to homeless service agencies. The survey will also help show who is experiencing homelessness with data from gender, age, ethnicity, race, and more.

Results will be given to the public after the survey and will help Saginaw’s response to homelessness in the future.

Sign up to volunteer by contacting Erin Riley, Continuum of Care Coordinator, at eriley@unitedwaysaginaw.org or 989-776-0546.
