Take another look at the Federal Reserve with ‘The Creature from Jekyll Island’

By Lindsey Schibelhut, Staff Reporter.

Have you ever wondered who is behind the creation of our money? “The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve-5th Edition” by G. Edward Griffin gives readers a whole new look into the world of the Federal Reserve. While most Americans associate the Federal Reserve as being “federal” or a part of the government, in reality it is actually a private entity. Griffin takes readers on an exploration of the reasons behind war, boom-bust cycles, depressions and inflation among others.

The book reads like an investigative novel which makes the information more interesting for the reader to comprehend. The beginning of the story tells of who was at the first Jekyll Island meeting and the amount of wealth which was represented at this meeting from all who attended it. We then move into the history of the “bailout” and the consequences of them. Readers will learn about inflation, the “boom-bust” cycles of our economy and how they are made worse by interventions from the government, as well as when government debt began and how it is still a huge problem today. By the end of the book you will be able to read Griffin’s optimism about a future without the Federal Reserve, being able to abolish the national debt and return the country to a monetary system backed by silver and gold and what else it will take to get there.

The book itself is 588 pages long and contains much more background history on the Federal Reserve and the central banking system than can be expressed in a single review. Griffin does a good job at making the chapters easy and concise to go through by helping narrate the history throughout. Along the way readers can look at some historical photographs of the men who were at the Jekyll Island meeting and the Jekyll Island building where it all took place, etc. He also includes a comprehensive six page bibliography so readers can find where he got all of his information in case they would like to investigate on their own.

“The Creature from Jekyll Island” will give people a deep look into the untold history of this centuries old institution and the movers and shakers behind the fateful Jekyll Island meeting, which has continued to shape our lives and country ever since. G. Edward Griffin leads you on a journey into the central banking system, the Federal Reserve, our economy and the wealthy bankers who helped create it all in a new and compelling way and you will find it hard to put down.
