DECA brings crafts to campus

By Meghan Felch, Staff Reporter.

The Delta College chapter of DECA will host its annual Holiday Arts and Crafts show Tuesday, Dec. 2. Up to 60 vendor tables will line the halls of Delta, including everything from one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry, woodworking and knitting to well-known brands like Tupperware, Avon, Pampered Chef, and Thirty-One. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., shoppers can pick up gifts and help fund the student club.

Delta’s chapter of DECA seeks to prepare entrepreneurial students for the business world through conferences at both state and international levels. “Students are given case studies and essentially asked to solve a real world business problem,” explains Greg Hubner, one of DECA’s club advisors. Each student from Delta can compete in one of five categories: Marketing and  Sales, Communications and Technology, Finance and Accounting, Business Management and Administration, or Hospitality and Tourism.

Their first competition will be in Grand Rapids March 13-15 at the state level. Some students who qualify may choose to also attend the international conference in Orlando, Fla., April 24-29. Students raise funds through events such as the Holiday Arts and Crafts show to help pay for other travel expenses. You do not need to be a business student to participate in DECA, but if you’re interested in joining the Delta College chapter contact Greg Hubner at gregoryhubner@delta.edu.
