UNIVERSITY CENTER – Bay County officials have revealed some details about a COVID-19 call center, which will be made available soon.
County executive Jim Barcia and public health director Joel Strasz shared information on a new public health order issued today, which directs the monitoring of coronavirus symptoms for critical infrastructure workers in Bay County.
Details on the order will be made available on the county’s coronavirus web page. However, the new call center will provide residents with a way to receive updated coronavirus information in real time, particularly for healthcare workers.
“Look for more guidance as the day goes on, especially as we get this call center available,” Strasz said at today’s press conference, elaborating that the call center will exist to help get messaging out in a much quicker venue than on the website.
No information was given on when the call center will be in operation.
In addition, Barcia noted that the county hospitals are “holding strong” and that they are receiving more negative COVID-19 tests than positive.
“By continuing social distancing, using good hygienic practices and isolating and quarantining ourselves when we become ill or symptomatic, we are doing what needs to be done,” Barcia said. “[…] Your efforts go a long way and will be remembered for years to come.”
Barcia also gave a call to action for residents to join in the fight against COVID-19 by making a donation to the Bay Area Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Community Response Fund. The fund exists to assist area organizations in helping communities that have been affected by the outbreak.
“It is so empowering to witness and be part of a strong movement that holds the needs of the community to the utmost importance,” said Barcia.
