UNIVERSITY CENTER – The Delta Collegiate has recently won 12 awards from the Michigan Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest for content published during the 2018/2019 school year.

Most categories in the college contest were awarded in three different divisions, with the Collegiate competing in the third division for community colleges.

The Collegiate completely swept the “Original Cartoon – Editorial or Entertainment” category, which was open class, meaning all divisions competed in the same contest. There were a total of 24 entries in this category.

Staff illustrator Lindsay Lang won first and second place prizes, as well as honorable mention in that category, while former staff illustrator Piper Wood won third place.

Lang’s first place winner is her illustration for the article “Seasonal affective disorder: how the seasons impact our mental health,” published Feb. 5, 2019.
