Q: How do I balance going to school, working, relationships, and having a social life all at the same time?
Dear Reader,
First, let me tell you that you are not the only one who has this problem. Almost every college student would agree that their schedules can make them feel like they’re flying all over. We’re busy. Trying to start our lives can take up a little bit of time. Finding a balance between every important aspect of our lives – family, friends, school and our jobs – is not an easy task.
The easiest thing to do to balance your life is to manage your time. Think to the week ahead. School work? Keep a planner for your homework assignments and project due dates. Planners take care of that problem.. Crazy work hours? Write those down in the planner too. It makes it easier on you when your schedule is written out for you. When you see there are free spaces, fill them up by going to a movie with a friend or going on that long-overdue date.
That being said, I do think figuring out a way to balance everything can depend on what type of person you are. Personally, I tend to put off my homework so that I can go out with my friends, which means I usually end up finishing it at midnight after I get out of work the night before it’s due. I’m okay with doing things last minute because I work better under pressure. Not having a plan works for me, but if you’re the type of person who sweats at the thought of deadlines or who can never seem to find time to spend with your significant other, planning everything out would solve these issues.
Trying to make plans kind of makes you miss the good old days when the only place you had to be was at the playground before noon, but it isn’t that difficult. As long as you put a little time and effort into managing your time, you’ll start to notice your becoming a lot less hectic.
