The Umbrella Academy’s success is undeniable

By Austin Konenski

The Umbrella Academy has been a massive hit among teens and adults ever since it was released
on Netflix in 2019. The series follows seven superheroes who were raised to save the world.
They all have unique abilities that makes them work well as a team. Season one was released on
Netflix and instantly became a massive success.

On the final day of July 2020, the show dropped its second season. After a breathtaking first
season, many wondered if it would follow the trend of other series and take a step back. Did The
Umbrella Academy live up to the expectations in season two?

The second season starts with a new challenge for the seven superheroes. Number 5, who has no
name, tends to be the most proactive of the seven siblings, and this continues when he crash
lands back in time during a nuclear holocaust. However, an assassin named Hazel shows up just
in time to save him from the end of the world.

Hazel brought Number Five back ten days in time to restore the timeline and save the world.
This sets the stage for what could be a thrilling second season. During this time, Number Five
needs to find all of his siblings to use their powers to stop the John F. Kennedy assassination and
save the world.

Due to a slower start of season one, the second season starts quicker because the audience knows
the seven siblings and their tendencies. The audience gets to see how each sibling adapted to
their new place in time. This is great to see as the season develops and the siblings are
gradually brought together.

This can be seen with Vanya, Number Seven, as she starts season two being hit by a car. She lost
her memory and forgot she had another family. This progresses as Number Five and others try to
get her to come back and be a part of the solution, fix the timeline, and return to their rightful
place in time.

The show is mainly fit for teens and adults. It has a TV-14 rating, so it is okay for ages 14 and
up. It can be viewed as a dark show as drugs, kidnapping, and violence are not very
suitable for younger kids.

Overall, season two of The Umbrella Academy is better than season one due to its subplots and
character development. The characters were able to naturally show their personalities and
relationships within their period of time. The Netflix thriller will quickly grab its viewers’
attention when the third season is released in 2022.
