Suicide Squad: “killin’ it” at the box office

By Abby Beckman, Staff Reporter.

Warner Bros.’s “Suicide Squad” was released on Aug. 5, 2016, and it could not have done better. According to Box Office Mojo, the squad earned the box office over $264 million as of Aug. 22 while the movie “Nerve,” a fellow PG-13 movie released only a week before, made only approximately $35 million.

The plot of this crime/action movie involves a handful of incarcerated supervillains released by a U.S. intelligence officer to assist her in a top-secret mission. These supervillains are played by a couple of top-notch actors and actresses including Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Cara Delevingne.

The movie involved a creative plot, age appropriate action, and exceptional acting. To my surprise, Jared Leto’s character, The Joker, was rarely in the movie. However, when he was, he was . The Joker and Harley Quinn were a real-life item in this movie. Similar to the comics, Quinn had more of a love interest in The Joker than he did. They were, however, one of the power couples of the movie, and will subsequently be the icons of Halloween this fall.

The reason behind the title of the movie is because each of the members have bombs implanted in their heads to ensure that they will not commit a crime or they will immediately be bombed. The reason behind “Squad” is that if one does wrong– they all do wrong. With that being said, the squad must stick together.
