‘Murder’s in the Heir’ brought a full house for Delta’s drama department

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Delta’s drama department did a fantastic job on their production of “Murder’s in the Heir.” The audience was filled with over a hundred people, made up of families and friends supporting the cast and crew on their last performance. It was truly a night to remember.

The interactive play follows the Starkweather family and staff as they gather at the Starkweather mansion. Here they find out that their relative or boss, Simon Starkweather, has decided to change his will and cut them out of it. Everyone is furious with the news, and as the clock hits midnight, Simon Starkweather is found dead. The mystery is finally on, and the audience must put on their detective skills.

An added bonus was that this was a play inside a play. With the “director” clarifying plot points and making sure things went smoothly. The play was hilarious, with every character having a weapon, opportunity, and motive to kill Simon Starkweather. The real question was, who did it?

The answer to that question came from the audience. During intermission, guests were asked to exit the theater and find a voting booth. There they would cast their vote on who they believed the killer was. With this added aspect, the ending could go anyway, which was simply amazing.

The killer for this performance was Fiona, Simon’s niece. Why? It wasn’t fair that everyone was cut out of the will, especially when she and her son would get the most money together.

Big props to the cast for being able to perform the ending fantastically without knowing how it would end beforehand. Overall, the play was incredibly fun and is something I would recommend others see.

Every actor did a fantastic job of portraying their character, which really helped suck the audience into the performance. Lighting and sound did an amazing job of sticking the audience in the story, and the set looked beautiful, showing a great representation of a billionaire’s living room.

I had a lot of fun watching the whole performance; I’ve never been to an interactive crowd performance before. This was also my first Delta Theater performance, and I enjoyed watching all of the talented actors on stage. I will definitely be trying to watch more of their productions during my time at Delta.

So, without further ado, give the cast and crew a big round of applause and watch out for their next show.
