Midland City Council nominating petitions available

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Want to run for office? The city of Midland is accepting nominations to run in the November 2020 city council election.

Midland is divided into five districts, or wards, where council members are elected to two-year terms. 

To qualify, an individual must be:

  • A resident of the city of Midland for at least one year prior to the date of election
  • A registered voter in the city of Midland

Nominating petitions must contain a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 40 signatures from citizens living within the ward in which the candidate seeks to run for office.

In addition, an affidavit of identity and receipt of filing must also be filled out by the candidate. This documentation, along with the fully signed nominating petition, is to be turned in to the city clerk’s office no later than Tuesday, April 21 at 4 p.m. The office is located at the Midland City Hall, 333 W. Ellsworth St.

Candidates are also required to complete a statement of organization form at the Midland County Clerk’s office, 220 W. Ellsworth St.

If there are three or more candidates running in one ward, their names will appear on the ballot for the primary election Tuesday, Aug. 4. The two people with the highest vote count will then appear on the general election ballot Tuesday, Nov. 3.
