Delta graduate publishes first book

Getting your work published for the first time is a huge feat for any writer, and Angela Delaney knows that from firsthand experience. After getting an Associates in Liberal Arts degree from Delta in 2007, Angela knew what she wanted to do – publish a screenplay.

Now living in Saginaw, Delaney now works as an optician three days a week while pursuing her passion for writing the other four. “I have another job, and I love my team,” says Delaney, “But it’s not my passion.” Since as young as six, writing has been just that for her.

Though a screenplay didn’t come first, Delaney’s first novel was created and conceived after 9 years of hard work.

Bearers of the Sacred Seven (The First Quest), published by Dog Ear publishing, is a novel about an epic adventure where three triplets travel to reclaim a stolen an inherited book 1000 generations old.

“Screenwriting, fiction, all the English classes at Delta helped me immensely [with writing the book],” says Delaney, “Literature class helped me get familiar with fiction. I’ve always gravitated toward non-fiction.”

Delaney says she really enjoyed her time at Delta, and has continued to take further enrichment classes there even after her graduation.

Delaney soon plans to take Advanced Screenwriting at Delta to help her get a good foot in the door on turning Bearers of the Sacred Seven into a proper screenplay, and eventually, a movie.

Her plan doesn’t stop there, either. “There’s going to be a whole lot more than just this book,” says Delaney, “There are plans for things like videos games, and more.” Plans and ideas for the second book are already in swing, and Delaney says there will be four, potentially even five books total in the series.

“I want to reach the young before they got off their path [and don’t follow their passion],” says Delaney, “And I want to reach the old who think that they still can’t reach it.”
