“Many times students don’t know where to go to get help for different things that they need, the different mental illnesses that they have, or even just general stress and anxiety,” explains Jessica Miller, a counselor at Delta College.
The fifth annual Care Fair, held at Delta on Feb. 11, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is continuing to bring outside resources to students on campus. The west hallway, near D-102, will have dozens of support resources and mental health agencies available to students who need help or who are interested in learning more about mental health.
“The care fair is about taking care of [students] and promoting good mental health,” says Miller.
The Counseling and Advising office want students to know that there is help available in the Tri-Cities and this event will help connect students in need with resources.
“We definitely want students to know that even though the topic is about [Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender] that LGBT in and of itself is not a mental illness. Our break out topics are sometimes around mental illness, but they may be around other areas of interest for students in a way that educates students on various topics,” explains Miller.
There will also be three informative sessions held in the Lecture Theatre, G-160, throughout the day.
