Bold.org announces college journalism grant

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Scholarship website Bold.org recently announced a new $1,000 grant for college students who are interested in journalism.

The grant, created by technology investor and entrepreneur Denis Grosz, is being offered to current students to provide funding for journalism projects they propose – including print, online and multimedia – as announced in a press release.

“Example projects include initiatives like a campus radio show, a news film and more,” the press release states. “Applicants are encouraged to think big!”

Current college students of any grade level, any level of experience and any field of study are eligible. An application consists of the student’s project proposal.

Selection criteria is based on the quality of the project and a compelling explanation of the project’s value to a student body, as well as a demonstrated passion for journalism.

A study done by Alloy Media + Marketing – in partnership with MORI Research – states that 76% of college students regularly read their college newspaper.

In spite of this, print college newspapers are still faced with similar problems as other print publications, as the news industry shifts toward online and social media audiences.

“The newly announced Bold.org College Journalism Grant is a step towards bringing more support to campus news organizations and the essential services they provide to students across the country,” the press release says.
More information about this grant can be found at its Bold.org webpage, where students can also apply. The deadline is Friday, Feb. 28 and one winner will be announced Thursday, March 26.
