The Front Bottoms, an American indie rock band, tore up the stage of The Intersection in Grand Rapids on May 6 while performing aside Diet Cig and Brick + Mortar to promote their album “Back on Top”. If you’re in to angst-ridden punk-esque music, then these guys just might be the band for you. With hits like “Twin Size Mattress”, “Swimming Pool”, and “Twelve Feet Deep”, the energy would be impossible to recreate at any other concert.
The 1975 performed at Meadowbrook in Rochester Hills on May 21st after opening acts The Japanese House and Wolf Alice to perform songs off their new album, “I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it.” The light and airy vibe the band radiated during their two-hour performance put everyone there in a very nostalgic mood. The bands motive is to make music for their listeners to make memories to, and that’s exactly what they did.
On June 21 Modern Baseball appeared at The Crofoot in Pontiac with Thin Lips and Joyce Manor in tote. With a vibe much like The Front Bottoms, these two go hand-in-hand in a battle for most lyrics added to teens’ Tumblr posts from 2012-2016. The Crofoot was adorned with an outside garden/bar area that was perfect for listening to the band while distancing yourself from the mosh pit and groups of colliding concert-goers constantly jumping in unison. Brendan Lukens, one of the lead singers, was extremely humble to meet, showing utmost gratitude for people who took the time to stop by. Modern Baseball didn’t disappoint with their track list or live sound either, primarily rocking tracks from their new album “Holy Ghost”. Over all, they made it an enjoyable concert experience.
In Detroit on July 27, Halsey and Oh Wonder put on an interactive and visual performance at The Masonic Temple. Oh Wonder kicked off the concert with chill and relaxing vibes, putting concert goers in the perfect mindset to see their header, Halsey. She put on an aesthetically pleasing performance, bringing her music to life with lights, audio, and visual effects.\
Drake is a Canadian rap artist who performed at the Joe Louis Arena on August 16. Packed with his biggest hits, a surprise appearance from Eminem and openers Roy Woods, and DVSN + Special Guests. With one hit after another, Drake tapped into over fifty of his hits throughout the two-hour concert to provide the most fulfilling concert experience of the summer.
