For Jordan Wheeler, a Delta student studying sonography, Disney is more than a movie to watch on a rainy day – it represents childhood, innocence and family. For Wheeler, Disney is a way of life.
“Wearing Disney makes me feel like a kid, in a good way,” she says, “It’s always good to stay a kid at heart – especially when I wear my ears — I feel like such a kid and I love it.”
Wheeler has been going to Disney parks since she was 5 years old and visits every year (it was her 13th time this past August). Seeing how excited the kids in the park get over the attractions and the characters makes her get excited, but it’s different from the perspective of a child.
“I definitely wear a lot of Ariel stuff. I feel like it makes my style brighter; More summer-y. I can always tell kids noticing it, which sounds weird but I can always tell. ‘Mom! Mom! Look at her shirt! It’s so cute.’”
Wheeler feels confident wearing Disney at Delta. Wearing Disney connects her adult self to her child self. According to Wheeler, there is no age limit to being a fan and loving Disney.
“You don’t have to worry about your boobs or if you look curvy – I’m wearing Ariel right now and I’m more concerned about showing that off than anything else. I’m showing off my Disney side.”
When Jordan was around 5 years old, she was already determined to wear Disney. She begged her mother to buy her a Belle dress from Hollywood Studios. Her grandmother purchased it and Wheeler wore it every day of the trip. She still has the dress.
“Every girl wants to be a princess; I don’t care who you are. At some point in your life, you thought it would be fun to be a princess. And if not – you’re lying,” she laughs.
