Delta community shows up for ninth annual Color Fun Run

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.– Last Saturday, the Delta community came together to raise money for the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) Club at the ninth annual Color Run. Each registration for the run went towards the PTA Club’s licensure fees.

The run featured snacks, games and music for attendees to enjoy while waiting for the race to begin. Those who participated came from all walks of life. Whether they were faculty, staff, students, alumni or community members, they all raced to support Delta’s PTA Club.

Children played and laughed together while their parents struck up conversations. Not only were community connections strengthened here, but they were also made.

When asking participants why they showed up for Delta, a common theme appeared: community. People were running to support Delta and to support personal and community goals.

Student and community member Amy Howard said that her favorite part of the run was seeing the kids enjoy themselves. Howard said that seeing everyone come together at the event brought a sense of community and collaboration. She also mentioned that she walked  to achieve a goal and to prove to herself that she could.

“I came and did this about two years ago, definitely on a weight loss journey,” she said. “I’m just seeing what I can do again.”

Director of Student Support, Erica Robb, stated that the community showed up to support Delta, not only with clubs, but with the clinical health programs as well. Robb went on to share her gratitude for the partnerships and support gained through the fundraiser.

Counselor Tim Cole spoke about the benefits that community has on mental health. He also shared that the run was a teambuilding experience for him and his fellow coworkers, Erica Robb and Karlie David.

“The more that you participate, there’s a sense of belonging, and that can go so far in your mental health,” he stated.

Delta’s ninth annual Color Fun Run brought students, staff and community members together to support not only the PTA club, but Delta’s community as a whole. Every person in attendance played a part in strengthening the Delta community.
