On Saturday, Feb. 7, Bemo’s Bar in Bay City held another Indie Music Showcase by Hell’s Half Mile. The musical artist that lined the showcase were Chalk Fight, George Morris and the Gypsy Chorus, Flint Eastwood and Passalacqua.
Kicking off the night was Chalk Fight. The three man band started the night off strong with high energy and strong instrumentals that were all drums. With songs like “Bleeding Room” and “Can I Live Alone?,” Chalk Fight is the band to catch if you’re looking to have a energetic time.
Next up, George Morris and the Gypsy Chorus. The soft sounding band from Detroit looked like a 70’s throwback and their vibe felt somewhat psychedelic. George Morris and the Gypsy Chorus’ sound made you nod your head and managed to have the bar swaying slowly from side-to-side with songs like “Girls on Parade” and “Fuck It.”
Another Detroit band followed George Morris and that was Flint Eastwood. Flint Eastwood took us to a whole new level. The Western sounding band came on stage dressed in cowboy attire and blew the roof off the building with strong vocals by Jax Anderson that made you move around. Flint Eastwood interacted with the crowd, often yelling at us to hold up our “shooters.” Flint Eastwood is a band to definitely catch if you’re cruising around the independent scene.
And to close the night, Passalacqua. The two man rap group had a hard act to follow, but they had no trouble keeping the roof off of the bar. The two man group kept the crowd energized and moving with its retro sound and songs like “Liquor Store” and “Been A Minute.” They had us craving ice cream at the end of the night with a constant chant of “When I say ice cream you say” followed by a thunderous “Sundae.” They also had Jax Anderson of Flint Eastwood on the stage for “Liquor Store.”
As far as the Bemo’s roof goes, it never came down.
