Welcoming city proposal returns to Bay City

A proposal that sparked strong opinions across the community is heading back to the table at the upcoming Bay City Commission Meeting.
The Commission will meet at 6 p.m. on Feb. 16 at City Hall. The resolution is expected to further define how the city handles immigration issues and the use of local resources in public safety matters.
Last year, a similar measure was approved by commissioners but later vetoed. This time, updated language is expected to be introduced, along with legal guidance for commissioners to review before deciding.
While the resolution does not create federal immigration policy, it could mold how Bay City prioritizes the use of local resources. Monday’s meeting is open to the public and community members are encouraged to speak during the public comment portion of the agenda.
