Delta took plenty of momentum with them into the postseason. After a twelve point victory of Schoolcraft in the regular season finale, the Pioneers were ready to face a Macomb team they were 2-0 against this season. Unfortunately, the Monarchs were ready for them this time.

When it comes right down to it, the Pioneers could not shoot on this day. They shot 25 percent from the field and a dismal 10 percent from three point range. Allante Wheeler scored 12 points off the bench and Jon Swift had 10, but the team had no answer for Macomb in this win or go home game.

“Our offense started off with too much one on one play,” explains Swift. “But eventually we started to execute, but just couldn’t find the bottom of the net.”

The loss puts an end to a whirlwind year for the men’s basketball program. They opened the year with 12 straight losses. However, the team had an incredible turn around and went 10-6 in conference play. That was enough to finish third in the conference and clinch a home game in the playoffs. Obviously, it’s not the ending that anyone on the team would have wanted, but that doesn’t take away from what the team did this year.

“I will cherish this memory considering how we started the season off and just how much we fought to get to the team that we became.” says Swift. “We really started to turn heads at the end of the season, unfortunately we came short in the post season. I will for sure remember the bond and the brotherhood that was created during the season I will always love my teammates as well as the coaching staff.”
