Third Annual Student Presentation gives students opportunity to showcase work

Many classes require students to do a large project over the course of the semester. The English Division at Delta has created a platform for students of all disciplines to present their hard work in a professional setting.

“We feel that students even at a community college level should have the opportunity to experience as much as they can of the professional world,” says Chey Davis, coordinator of the event.

The Third Annual Student Presentation Conference is set to occur April 15 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The form of the presentation is open to each student’s own discretion – from informative speeches to self-written poetry to poster presentations.

The event is open to all students, faculty and the community. Davis says that information about the conference was made available to employers who were present at the career fair on March 19.

“Part of what we want to do is to help people in the community know what we are doing here in classes,” says Davis. “It’s one thing to come out with a degree in XYZ but it’s all the more rich when you can say ‘here is something I have created’ or ‘here is something that I have done.’”

Davis encourages students of all divisions to apply to present at the conference. Submissions are due by Wednesday April 1. Forms can be found at www.delta.edu/english/events.aspx.

“I’m still waiting for the builders to come and build us something,” she says. “The best case scenario would be that every division on campus is able to show some of their great work.”
