While Delta College is closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. day, the city of Saginaw has multiple opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of the celebration.
The Castle Museum will be hosting a Martin Luther King Jr. day teach-in which begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 3:15 p.m. The first part of the event begins at 10 and runs until 2 p.m. with a choose your own learning station. If you complete three areas at the learning stations you receive a keepsake gift. At 2 p.m. the museum will host keynote speaker Erin Patrice of Breaking Bread Village. The museum is located at 500 Federal St. This event is free and open to all.
Additionally, the Iota Chi Lambda chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity in association with Delta College Black Faculty and Staff are hosting the 30th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Birthday Celebration at 11 a.m. at the Dow Event Center. Tickets for the luncheon are $60 per adult, and $25 for children 12 and under. Prior to the event, there will be a march from downtown Saginaw to the Dow Event Center. Participants will gather near Hayden and Franklin streets at 9:45 a.m. with the march beginning at 10.
Later in the week on Jan. 22, Saginaw Valley State University will be hosting the 2026 MLK Regional Celebration at the Malcolm Field Theatre inside Curtiss Hall. Four members of the Great Lakes Bay community will be awarded Drum Major Awards for their behind-the-scenes service that exemplifies values central to Dr. King’s legacy. The event is open to the public.
