Saginaw County is going to the dogs and cats. Unwanted strays are creating an influx of animals at Saginaw Country Animal Care Center shelter. The volunteers have come together to host an adoption event to try and find forever homes for their animals.
There are over 40 dogs and 20 cats up for adoption at this event. The event is Oct. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. and is located at 1312 Gratiot Ave. The cats and dogs can be seen on the shelters Facebook page.
Michelle Lynn, a shelter volunteer, explained, “Many of the animals have been here many months. It’s very stressful for animals to be in this type of environment.”
The animals are confined to cages day after day and are only let out for sometimes 15 minutes. This can be detrimental to their behavior and personality.
“The longer they are there the more it can negatively affect their behavior, making them seem less adoptable. Most of them will be fine once they get out, decompress and readjust to a home environment. They just need a chance,” explained Lynn.
The animals are all up to date on their shots and are spayed or neutered before adoption. Dogs cost $68.50 and puppies cost $125.00. Spayed/neutered adult cats costs $25. Neutered male kittens cost $40 while spayed female kittens cost $53. Unaltered kittens require a $25 deposit that will go toward spaying/neutering.
The Saginaw County Adoptable Pets Facebook page has photos of the animals that are up for adoption, but the volunteers would prefer the community to come in and meet the animals to see if they’re a good match.
Stacy Redman-Bauer, a shelter volunteer, explained, “Because we are almost to capacity, it’s imperative we find these animals homes.”
