After the Women’s 62-60 win over Macomb on Jan. 7, it was the Men’s Pioneer team turn to take the court against the Monarchs. Also, like the Lady Pioneers, their game was a close call.
In the first half, Trayvon Cotton began the scoring for Delta with a one-handed slam over Monarch defenders. Delta and Macomb traded baskets and leads before Macomb went on a mini-run and took the lead, 29-25, to the locker room.
In the second half, Macomb continued their run to have a 12 point lead at one point, before a great team effort by the Pioneers ran them back into the lead, which they held until late. Macomb took a 61-58 lead and never looked back as the Monarchs took the game, 65-62.
The Monarchs were led by Dandon Johnson with 14 points, Brandon Hicks had 13 and Logan Merrick tallied 9 in the win. The Pioneers were led by Markell Bradshaw, with 16 points, including 4 of 5 from the Free-Throw Line. Julian Henderson also had 13 and Trayvon Cotton had 9.
Delta’s next Men’s game will take place Wednesday, Jan. 14 against Wayne County CC, here at Delta at 7:30, shortly following the Lady Pioneers’ game.
