On Wednesday, Jan. 15 the Delta College Pioneers were swept by the Muskegon Community College Jayhawks. The women lost 80-64, and the men lost a heartbreaker 96-92.
In the women’s game the Jayhawks dominated 11-3. Muskegon out rebounded, turned the ball over less, and shot better than the Pioneers. After a tightly contested first half, the game got away from Delta in the second. While both teams struggled to shoot in the first half, Muskegon found their touch after halftime. Sophomore forward Hailee Jefferson had 16 points and was a rebound away from recording her second straight double-double.
There wasn’t much to set apart the men’s teams, with the Pioneers leading the way in rebounds and having less turnovers than the Jayhawks but converting less shots. Delta led at half time by three, and the second half was extremely close until the final minute when the Jayhawks put Delta away. Sophomore wing Brendon Schlink ended the game with 25 points and 11 rebounds to give him a double-double
The Pioneer men and women face the North Central Michigan College Timberwolves on Saturday, Jan. 18 at NCMC.
