BANGOR TOWNSHIP – Police killed a man near Bay City after arriving at an apartment for reports of shots fired. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, one person died, and another was possibly injured following an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning.
Deputies responded to a call for shots fired inside Bangor Downs with a possible shot subject, Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham said.
“Deputies arrived and entered the apartment. They located a deceased subject,” Cunningham said. “They were then confronted by a suspect and faced with a deadly force situation. The suspect is deceased, and there is no known threat to the public.”
No deputies were injured, the Sheriff said.
Per the Sheriff’s Office policy and procedures, Cunningham said that a deputy was placed on paid administrative leave while the incident was being investigated.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement sending their thoughts and prayers to everyone involved in or affected by this incident.
Michigan State Police are helping with the investigation.
