“Much Ado About Nothing” is not the Shakespeare you think you know

Midland Center for the Arts brings Shakespeare to Mid-Michigan. However, according to director Dexter Brigham, this production of “Much Ado About Nothing” isn’t like the version you read in high school. This play is how Shakespeare meant it to be experienced: a theatrical experience.

“Much Ado About Nothing” is a thrilling comedy, and is one of Shakespeare’s most well known works. The story is based on two pairs of lovers and their wild journey through romance. A series of comic and tragic events seem to separate these lovers, but true love brings them back together to find their happily ever after.

This production of “Much Ado About Nothing” is set in Colonial America and told by witty, energetic, tattoo-laden thespians. This adds to the fresh approach Brigham is taking with the show that marks his second directorial venture on the Midland Center for the Arts’ Mainstage. “This approach is interesting- not at all stuffy,” said Brigham.

“Audiences should expect to be engaged. This show is high energy. It is intended to get people to laugh,” said Brigham.

“Much Ado About Nothing” runs at the Midland Center for the Arts Feb. 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 7:30p.m. and February 8 and 15 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for students. Tickets are available online at tickets.mcfta.org or by calling 989-631-5930.
