As it begins to warm up outside, it gets more and more annoying having to sit in the library doing classwork, especially when you wish you could be active. There’s now an alternative way to exercise in school during the middle of the day. The Fitness Club is now offering free circuit training from 1 p.m to 2 p.m. in room P-126 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But, what exactly is circuit training?
“It’s usually a high impact work out where you do forty-five seconds of activity at a particular station, then you get fifteen seconds of rest,” explains Dominic Willis, founder and president of The Fitness Club. “Hence the title ‘circuit,’ because you’re going around in a circle of stations.”
With busy class schedules, and extracurricular activities, it’s hard to find time to get in a good workout. Now, all you need is an hour a day to get in a high quality workout without the price tag.
“It’s a free opportunity to exercise,” says Willis. “We have the fitness classes here at Delta, and those are great too, but this is a chance to get some of the same help and training without the cost.”
The Fitness Club is using this bi-weekly event to raise awareness for what they are doing throughout the school, and the opportunities they can provide.
“The Fitness Club is here to support people if they need advice on exercise and fitness, or if you need help reaching a goal,” says Willis. “This can be the extra push you need to get started.”
You can come to Mid-Day Meltdown as often as you want, but Willis recommends that you try to become consistent with your attendance.
“If you attend the circuit training and enjoy it, you should definitely consider joining the Fitness Club,” says Willis. “We’re all about spreading knowledge about fitness and helping people in any way we can.”
Even if circuit training isn’t your thing, The Fitness Club has other events in the works. If you have any questions, you can email Willis at dominicwillis@delta.edu.
