Michigan representative pushes straight agenda

By MARISA LORANGER, Staff Reporter.

The Midland Daily News recently promoted Tony Lascari to news editor. This information doesn’t really sound newsworthy, but has interest to Gary Glenn and his straight agenda. The Michigan representative issued an “Agenda Alert” on his twitter announcing that Lascari is a gay man.

Glenn felt that it was his duty to tell his constituents and the Midland community about Lascari’s home life because he thinks that the paper will now start to push a gay agenda.

Glenn is president of American Family Association of Michigan (AFA), is against LGBT anti-discrimination laws and is author of Michigan’s Marriage Protection Amendment.

The AFA of Michigan posted an “Action Alert” in 2012 shouting falsehoods such as “Homosexuality is a poor and dangerous choice, and has been proven to lead to a litany of health hazards to not only the individuals but also society as a whole.”

It seems that Glenn is the one pushing some kind of agenda. Glenn is trying to push people into this straight agenda, he doesn’t want LGBT members to have any rights and he has pushed for this time and time again.

The AFA of Michigan’s website has an entire section dedicated to the “homosexual agenda,” where there are posts discussing their petitions to the U.S. Supreme Court asking for Hate Laws to be reviewed because the law “criminalizes so-called bias crimes motivated by a persons actual or perceived sexual orientationor gender identity.”

So not only is Gary Glenn against freedom for all, but he spreads lies. There are people out there that listen to what he has to say as a lawmaker and for him to be spreading lies is extremely dangerous to the lives of LGBT members. Lying about the character of a group of people is a method used to dehumanize others, which makes it easier to enact violence on those group of people.

He has a great opportunity in his position to educate people and to learn from the people in the communities he looks over. He instead uses this opportunity at the podium to spread hate.

Lascari and his husband should be able to be left alone without being heckled about their marriage. I have yet to see some kind of agenda being pushed on their end.

What kind of jobs would Glenn like to see members of the LGBT community hold? He states they shouldn’t be politicians, judges or even write for a newspaper, so what would be an appropriate job for those in the LGBT community? It seems that Glenn doesn’t want there to be a community of LGBT members at all, instead of them being productive and contributing members of society he would rather they not have them.

In an e-mailed statement to The Advocate, Lascari explained, “I am aware that Michigan Rep. Glenn has issued an ‘agenda alert’ on Facebook and Twitter to let his supporters know about my marital status. I welcome him to contact me to speak about any topic at any time. In my new role as news editor at the Midland Daily News I look forward to helping my team produce quality stories that are accurate, interesting and important.”

Bets are that Glenn will never contact Lascari because he isn’t one who cares for accuracy or what’s important, he only cares about pushing his agenda.
