Lover’s Lane flattened, construction on Raising Cane’s to begin

By Emma Brown

Raising Cane’s chicken is on its way to Saginaw, replacing Lover’s Lane, which held its spot for nearly 15 years at the corner of Bay and Tittabawassee Road. The chicken shack is known for its crispy chicken and has gone viral for the signature Cane’s sauce.

Cane’s was founded in Louisiana in 1996 by Todd Graves and earned its name from Graves’ loveable yellow Labrador retriever, Cane. The restaurant expanded into Michigan in 2022, opening its first store in East Lansing. It is set to be the fifth location in the state.

The former building was the home of a few different shops from phone retailers to other restaurants. Most notably it was home to another chicken restaurant, Kenny Rogers Roasters, from 1997 to 2003.

There is no official completion date for the restaurant, though it was predicted in September of 2025 by the Kochville Township planning committee that construction would be completed by early summer of 2026.
