On Wednesday Jan. 7, Delta’s women’s basketball squads took on the Monarchs from Macomb CC.
The Lady Pioneers had an up-and-down start, as Macomb was looking to pull away with the game before halftime. The Pioneers and Monarchs were trading baskets and leads throughout the half, but the Pioneers rallied to tie the game at 27 a piece.
The Pioneers took care of business in the second half. Led by Champagne Arthur’s 17 points, including three three-pointers, Mercedez Willis’ 13 points, and DyMond Perry’s 8-for-10 performance at the free throw line, the women staved off a late Macomb rally to win, 62-60. The Monarchs were led by De’Asia Clark and Natalie Novak with 13 points a piece, with Dayshia Vance tallying 11 and Kadesha Taylor helping out with 10. Delta didn’t trail at all during the second half, and its largest lead was 8. The women are now 7-7 on the season.
The Lady Pioneers next game will be Wednesday, Jan. 14 against Wayne County CC here at Delta. Tip-off is at 5:30, with the Men’s team to tip at 7:30.
