If you have a passion for music and a desire to perform, Delta College’s choral and vocal ensembles offer a space to explore musical talents. With opportunities in the Chamber Choir, Chorale, and Jazz Singers, these groups allow students and faculty to come together and share their love for music. The groups have participated in concerts, tours, and statewide performances, and have even traveled worldwide to share their talent.
Delta College Chamber Choir
The Delta College Chamber Choir, a select group of 12-14 voices, is an audition-only ensemble that performs a dynamic range of choral music. The choir holds two concerts per semester and occasionally collaborates with the Chorale for tours and larger performances.
The ensemble is no longer under Covid restrictions and can once again perform tours statewide. They have been offered opportunities to travel to Germany and Austria in the past and were invited to Spain based on their performance at Carnegie Hall.
Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in room S131.
Delta College Jazz Singers
The Delta College Jazz Singers are an auditioned vocal ensemble composed of 12 to 14 voices, specializing in vocal jazz. The group performs a blend of original compositions, unique arrangements, and jazz classics, showcasing a variety of styles within the genre. The Jazz Singers typically hold two concerts each year and participate in an annual tour during the winter semester, performing both locally and across the state.
Rehearsals for the ensemble take place every Wednesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in room S131.
Delta College Chorale
The Delta College Chorale is the largest choral group of the three and is open to both students and faculty, with the option to earn academic credit. This group, comprising 30 to 40 voices, performs a wide range of choral works from different musical periods and genres, often featuring large chorus pieces. The ensemble typically presents two concerts each semester, collaborating with small instrumental groups and occasionally performing with a full orchestra.
In May 2012, the Chorale joined six other community college choirs for a performance of Mozart’s Regina Coeli and Vivaldi’s Gloria at Carnegie Hall in New York. For information on how to join contact the Choir Program Coordinator Dr. Timothy Hendrickson at timothyhendrickson@delta.edu, call 989-686-9373 or visit room S239.
