Delta’s Pioneer Gym was packed as job-seekers and employers met face to face at a job fair hosted by the college. The event was organized by Delta’s Career Services on Thursday, March 19.
For Bridget Foco, of Caravan Facilities Management, job fairs offer companies a great opportunity to meet prospective hires; and Delta’s events go above and beyond.
“We do quite a few job fairs at local colleges and this one is by far our favorite,” said Foco. “We’ve gotten quite a few resumes, and a lot of interest.”
Many people went to the fair to see the opportunities that were available. Cody Davzon, a Manufacturing and Industrial Technology student, says the job fair offers students a chance to examine their future.
“Just seeing what there is out there, you don’t want to go to college and be trapped or unemployable,” said Davzon.
Applicants were able to approach company representatives and discuss employment opportunities and resumes; there were tables throughout the gym and hall with people filling out applications.
Some of the companies that held booths at the fair included DMTG Ingersoll Systems, Farmer Asphalt Sealers, Trillium Staffing, Covenant Healthcare, Chemical Bank and Burger King. There were also recruitment booths representing the branches of the military.
Martin Finney, a Career Advisor at Delta, said that turnout was good this year both for employers and applicants; and that companies like the ability to talk to so many qualified people at the job fair.
“We have about eight employers which is good,” said Finney. “It’s always been our goal to have something for everybody.”
Melissa Sweet is the Human Resources Manager for Lowe’s and attended Delta’s jobs fair last year. Sweet says she often looks back on people she met at that fair when considering possible hires.
“It’s really good the school does this, even when you go to a business you might not meet the right person,” said Sweet. “We’ve had a really good turnout both this year and last. Delta students are the best.”
