The cold weather is creeping in, which means you might see some men sporting more facial hair than usual. It could be a fashion trend, or maybe it’s a way for men to support other men.
Countless men are giving up their razors for November to raise awareness for men’s health. It is a proven fact that women live longer than men, according to US Health News. Testicular and prostate cancer bestow to a reason why. According to Our World in Data, the suicide rate in men can be as much as ten times higher than for women.
Movember Foundation
Movember is an annual movement that involves the growing of facial or body hair to raise awareness for men’s health issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The Movember Foundation started in Australia and has raised over $1.1 billion across more than 20 countries since 2003. This movement has inspired over six million “Mo Bros” and “Mo Sisters.” The Movember Foundation is a nongovernmental funder of testicular and prostate cancer research. Movember has helped fund over 1,250 men’s health projects.
Mark Hedstrom, Executive Director in the US for the Movember Foundation, says that by 2030, Movember hopes that its efforts will help to cut prostate cancer deaths by 50% and male suicides by 25%.
