Local independent filmmakers now have the opportunity to submit their films for the 11th anniversary of Hell’s Half Mile Film and Music Festival. The festival takes place this year from Sept. 22 through the 25 in downtown Bay City, and it features independent film and live music on all three days.
The festival is open to all genres. Submission deadlines are broken down into three tiers – early bird, regular, and late – because, according to Program Manager Don Hessell, it’s a film festival standard used by submission websites such as withoutabox.com and filmfreeway.com.
“Since they have that system, we follow along. This serves two purposes: first to encourage early submissions while the fee is low,” says Hessell. “The second reason is for marketing purposes because websites such as Withoutabox.com and FilmFreeway.com send out festival deadline reminders to filmmakers. That means we get 3 promotional blasts via email letting filmmakers know that we have a call for submissions.”
Jan. 15 is the early bird deadline, March 15 is the regular deadline and April 15 is the late deadline.
