The first competition of the Great Lakes Bay Region dance-off for charity, Swingshift and the Stars, is coming up on Feb. 13 at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Bay City. This event takes “Dancing with the Stars” style competitions to the next level by having couples dance for a certain charity.
The charities supported at the affair this year are Heroes for Kids, Hidden Harvest, the Great Lakes Bay Region YWCA, Prostate Cancer Understanding, Prevention & Screenings (PCUPS), Family and Children’s Services and the Great Lakes Bay Autism Center.
Here’s how it works: each ticket holder for the event is provided with an envelope that they cast their vote in. They can vote for either their favorite dance couple or designate their vote to the charity of their choice. To vote, the ticket holder must include a minimum donation of $5, which goes to support the charity.
Not only will attendees watch dancing, they will also have the opportunity to learn a few dance moves themselves. A dance teacher will provide a lesson at each competition and there will be opportunities to dance throughout the night.
There will be three dance-off competitions, each with a different dance (swing, tango, rhumba, etc.). The first competition will be Feb 13, the second will take place on Mar. 13 and the third on Apr. 10. There will also be a grand finale event on May 8.
Those interested in attending any of the competitions can purchase tickets by calling 231-941-8082 or going to swingshiftandthestars-glbr.com. General admission tickets are $25 and table seats are $35.
