155 new jobs coming to the Detroit area, according to Gov. Whitmer. Founded in Norway in 2013, a company called wheel.me is the reason for the new jobs.
The company, with support from the state government, announced their intentions of setting up a new international office. It will be their first in North America.
Wheel.me’s product is unique. They sell the world’s first autonomous wheel, according to a government press release. Essentially, these wheels can turn virtually anything into a rolling robot, allowing for other businesses to automate their services more easily.
The product has attracted the attention of several large international companies, and the company hopes they will eventually be able to open a manufacturing plant somewhere in Michigan.
“There’s a reason why international companies like wheel.me pick Detroit, we are at the center of advanced mobility and revolutionizing how the world moves,” said Maureen Donohue Krauss, president and CEO of the Detroit Regional Partnership, in a press release.
Wheel.me’s attraction to Michigan could be seen as a win for the state, as government and business leaders continue to advocate for the Great Lakes State to become a leader in high-tech fields and development.
