You have the opportunity to help local at-risk children realize their dreams, all while eating chocolate.
The Delta College Foundation Department’s ‘Possible Dream’ program is hosting the ‘A Chocolate Affair’ fundraiser. The fundraiser is taking place at the Horizons Conference Center, 6200 State St, Saginaw, Mich., on Thursday, Nov. 20 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“[The Possible Dream program] is something that helps students grow, learn, and meet new people. Most importantly, the program is to make their dreams come true,” says Mary Harding, Coordinator of Scholarships & Special Events at the Delta College Foundations office.
The Possible Dream program is currently one of the largest fundraisers in the Great Lakes Bay Region. It began in 1991 and it started raising those funds through their annual ‘Chocolate Affair’ event. The funds are for educational/cultural classes for bright, at-risk students (grades 6-12) who don’t have the financial resources to progress to college or other higher goals.
At the event, people who attend will enjoy a variety of foods, drinks, and desserts, and of course chocolate. Possible Dream students from all across the Great Lakes Bay Region will also be attending to show gratitude for their supporters.
Harding explained how the Possible Dream program has and continues to help students.
“Approximately 100 students are inducted into the program every year,” Harding said. “So far, the program has helped over 800 students, and at last year’s fundraiser, about 780 tickets were sold, netting over $95,000 .”
Tickets will be sold at the doors. V.I.P. tickets are $125 per person, which includes a premium menu selection that lasts from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. General admissions tickets will be $65 per person.
