Observing in Bay City

Bay City is offering a chance to watch the star with telescopes and meet new people who share a passion for astronomy. There will be a special talk and telescope viewing at Bay City State Park Friday Oct. 28 beginning at 7 p.m.

According to the Planetarium’s website, the Delta College Planetarium teamed up with the Sunset Astronomical Society to present this telescope viewing. All who are interested will meet at the state park’s visitor’s center and observing will take place rain or shine.

Getting technical with Snapchat

Snapchat is a fun way to communicate with friends and has features users may not know about.

  • Have you ever wanted to use more than one filter at once? If you already have a black and white filter on your selfie, just hold your finger on the screen and swipe right to add a second filter. You can use face filters with this too! Add in your deer face filter, swipe for a color change, hold your finger down, and swipe right to add in the temperature!
  • Snapchat’s camera has a special feature to take pictures in the dark without the use of flash. When taking a picture in the dark, a little crescent moon appears in the upper left-hand corner next to the flash option. If the moon doesn’t appear, hold your hand over the camera until it does. The setting brings in a more natural light that could work better than the harsh light from the flash.
  • Ever wonder why black isn’t a color on the rainbow slider? Well, I don’t know why it isn’t but I know where you can find it! If you want to draw with the color black, simply bring up the rainbow slider, start at the top and slide your finger all the way down to the bottom of your phone screen. You just got yourself a new color!

Listeria now a new ingredient in ice cream

Even though the temperatures are dropping doesn’t mean your craving for a sweet treat is. But next time you go to grab a pint of your favorite ice cream, do some research beforehand.

According to CNN, Nestle’s Drumstick ice cream cones are being recalled because traces of Listeria are being found in the delectable treat. The recall includes the 16 and 24 count packages that were produced between Aug. 31 and Sept. 17.

Nestle isn’t the only ice cream brand finding Listeria in their products. Publix and Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. recalled their chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. The cookie dough contains no eggs so salmonella isn’t the problem, traces of Listeria is. Blue Bunny also issued a recall for the same problems.

No reports have been made of ill consumers with Listeriosis, which is an invasive infection caused by eating foods contaminated with Listeria. Symptoms include fever, muscle and body aches and gastrointestinal issues. This is a serious illness and should be brought to the attention of your doctor.
