UNIVERSITY CENTER — In these unprecedented times the NFL has decided to continue with the 2020-2021 season. Knowing that the Detroit Lions are a part of the NFL, it’s time for the season preview.
With the Lions not making any big moves in free agency. Their only hopeful additions to the team this offseason are Jeff Okudah, D’Andre Swift and Julian Okwara. The key rookies they drafted that we all hope blossoms into Hall of Fame caliber players.
The Lions 2019-2020 season saw a lot of injuries that sidelined many of the impact players like Matthew Stafford and Kerryon Johnson. Two players who make up a significant part of their offense. So this season should see some improvements with them back.
After looking over the 16 games, I have the Lions going 7-9. With five games being an uneasy victory, they should still be favored. Then there are five games that can go 50/50. I have them going 2-3 in those games. Then there are six games that I don’t have the Lions winning. Obviously an upset can happen especially if key players get injured, after all, anything could happen.
Head Coach, Matt Patrica will be a big factor in whether the Lions can steal a game or two and win more of those 50/50 games. The NFC North is one of the tougher divisions in the NFL. The Lions have the right players to make the playoffs. But sadly they’re stuck in a division with Aaron Rodgers leading the Green Bay Packers, a hot Dalvin Cook leading the Minnesota Vikings, and a stout defense leading the Chicago Bears.
Overall, I predict the Lions going 7-9 for the 2020-2021 season. Their best case scenario predictions would be them having an overall score of 12-4 for this season and worst case being a score of 5-11. Good luck Lions!
