Delta provides tax filing service for seventh straight year

By Andrew Mason, Staff Reporter.

It’s that time of year again: Tax season. If you always have trouble filing your taxes, or if this is your first time, Delta will be able to help you. The college is partnering with the United Way of Saginaw County to provide a free tax filing service to those who qualify. The program is run by accounting students who are trained and overlooked by Associate Professor of Accounting, Greg Hubner.

“All the returns that get prepared are quality reviewed by someone like me,” says Hubner, Associate Professor of Accounting, CPA and coordinator of this event. “We make changes, and we point out things students may have missed.”

The event starts Friday, Feb. 5 and will run every Friday until April 15, but will be closed spring break(March 7-12). The service is located in Delta’s library, in room A-121. The event is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. “You should expect a wait,” says Hubner, “especially within the first 5 to 6 weeks of the tax season. We’re always pretty busy, so I advise getting there before 9, and around 8:45 we’ll start letting people sign in.”

In order to take advantage of this service, you will need to bring certain documents. A list of documents can be found at: www.delta.edu/vita/documents.

The two things you must bring with you are a photo ID of you (and your spouse if applicable) and a Social Security card for yourself and anyone else you’re filing for.
