On Wednesday Oct. 16 the Delta College Pioneers routed the Grand Rapids Community Raiders 7-0.
The Pioneers looked in control from the kickoff with sophomore forward Peyton Pratt scoring 34 seconds into the game. This goal was assisted by sophomore midfielder Kendall Jackson. Grand Rapids kept the game close in the first half, but conceded less than ten minutes before the half, with Pratt scoring her second of the match to make it 2-0.
In the second half Delta pulled away from the Raiders. Sophomore Kaylee Shattuck scored the Pioneers’ third goal with an assist from Kendall Jackson. Mikalah Lewis scored to make the game 4-0. Kendall Jackson added to her total with a goal to make it 5-0 with assists to Pratt and Lewis. Brooke Swartz scored to make it 6-0 which was assisted by Catherine Mueller. To finish the match, Mueller scored the seventh and final goal of the match to make it 7-0 off an assist by Shattuck.
You couldn’t ask for a better performance from the sophomore members of the team on a night dedicated to them. Of the 13 goals and assists recorded, 12 were registered by sophomores.
The Pioneers dominated the match. They looked faster, better conditioned, were first to every ball, and were far better defensively. The team registered 34 shots and allowed only one.
