University Center, MI – The Delta women’s basketball team bounced back from a disappointing loss on Nov. 14 with a dominating performance that beat the visiting Jackson Community College squad on Nov. 18 by a score of 78-66. With the win, the Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the season while Jackson drops to 1-4.
Delta jumped out to a quick start, taking a 17-10 lead after one quarter and extending it to an eight-point advantage by halftime, 35-27. Jenna Szostak led the charge offensively by scoring early and often for the Pioneers on route to a 20-point performance on six of 13 shots – including four of seven from the arc.
“We made it a point to step up our defensive intensity and it showed holding Jackson to 10 points in the first quarter,” says head coach Kelly Miller. “Then Jenna got going early and the offense opened up from there.”
Delta continued their hot shooting in the third quarter as they outscored the Jets by seven to take a 15-point lead into the final stanza. They were able to run out the clock in the fourth and ice the win from the free-throw line.
Miller says, “We know that when we play a good defensive game we are capable to beat anyone. Our focus is controlling tempo by making teams play the pace we like and tonight we were able to do that.”

The freshman guard from Saginaw High is 17.3points and 4.6 assists in the Pioneer’s three wins this season.
