Attempted robbery on Delta’s campus

By Gabrielle Martin, Staff Reporter.

On Nov. 24 at approximately 2 p.m. an attempted unarmed robbery occurred on Delta’s campus in the southeast parking lot.  A young man was approached by black men in their early twenties. While the attempted robbers were unarmed, Steve Witzke, Director of Public Safety at Delta College, says that it is believed that the victim was forcibly attacked but fought off the assailants. Nothing was taken from the victim. The identity of the suspects is unknown at this time.

According to Witzke, the father of the victim called Public Safety at Delta College to alert them of the occurrence. Since the victim is over 18 years of age, his father couldn’t file a report for him and the victim doesn’t wish to follow through with a report.

“We tried to follow up with the victim,” says Witzke,” We were able to verify that he would have been here at the time it happened. We want to make sure that the general safety of the college is looked after. If we had more facts, we would have more to go on… to prevent a future occurrence.”
