“Student 2 Student” food drive to fill empty stomachs this holiday season

With colder weather fast approaching, many families and students in the area are facing the holidays with empty stomachs. Professor Amber Johnson, an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Delta College and Dean of Students at Bay City Academy, is seeking to change that.

“We wanted to give students a chance to know and understand the sense of emotional well being that naturally comes from helping others. What better way to do this than to have students give to other students?” As a result, she has started the “Student 2 Student” food drive through Bay City Academy’s middle and elementary school to benefit Delta College’s students through the student food pantry.

“Not only are we hoping to ease student stress of worrying about having enough food to eat, which would trump worrying about academic goals, we want Delta students to know that students of BCA are proud of their efforts to further their education and that our school community cares,” said Johnson.

The Delta Student food pantry, located in the West Courtyard, is open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as by appointment. The phone number for the pantry is 989-686-9747.
