On Oct. 28, VP Dr. Reva Curry and the Delta College Library hosted a program to recognize the many staff and faculty who have written and published their own works of literature.
This list of faculty, past and present, consists of just over thirty people who have dedicated their time and effort to create nearly ninety different works, including fiction, nonfiction, short stories, poetry, curriculum, and more.
Dr. Jean Goodnow, President of Delta College, officially opened the program, acknowledging the dedication and hard work that the Delta faculty members put into their written works. “Today, we celebrate books created by Delta’s very own staff and faculty,” she said. “Thank you [authors] for sacrificing your time to write and share your works with us.”
The thirty-one authors were separated into 8 different groups, which were called upon one at a time to sit in front of their books to sign and date them. Afterwards, each author was called up to be presented with Certificates of Achievement of Excellence.
Consecutively, the authors watched as the Library staff unveiled the Delta authors’ ‘Nook’. The Nook, dedicated to the authors, includes pictures of all of the Delta authors, a ‘Featured Works’ display consisting of most of the authors’ books, and the ‘Brag Board’ which displays publications, presentations, lists of accomplishments, and other highlighted works. The authors’ books are now available to be checked out from the library.
“[The Book Signing/Nook Dedication] is a way to highlight what our professors and faculty have accomplished,” said Delta College Reference Librarian Colleen Kothbauer. “We want to show what they have achieved to the community.”
The Delta Authors Book Signing Ceremony and Nook Dedication was hosted by Dr. Reva Curry and assembled by the Program Committee (LLIC Staff members), consisting of: Michele Allen, Anne Elias, Marge Frost, Tina Kaczmarek, Colleen Kothbauer, Michelle Pratt, and Carol Whittaker.
“There are so many faculty members who are excellent educators as well as excellent authors,” Dr. Curry said, “and we want to display their accomplishments to the Delta community as well as areas around. In sharing their works, we want the community to know the caliber of the writers’ abilities.”
