Intramural sports kicks off with dodgeball game

Delta College now offers students the chance to join an intramural sports league for students looking to get active and have some fun in the process. On Wednesday Nov. 16 the sports league held its first event, a dodgeball game, in the Pioneer Gym.

Dominic Willis, the President of the Delta Fitness Club, helped organize this event.

“It brings a lot of people together who might not know each other,” says Willis.

The 29-year-old got out the word to students passing by in the halls that anybody could come play dodgeball and have some fun for a couple hours. With exams happening and stress levels rising Willis says that a relaxed game of dodgeball is exactly what some students need.

“It gives them a chance to blow off some steam,” Willis says.

The atmosphere of the gym was said to be extremely laid back, and was open as any passerby who happened to walk in was encouraged to join in on the fun.

James Quinn, the 21-year-old vice president of the newly formed intramural sports group, hopes that the number of players at events continues to grow. Quinn urges those who might not be too familiar with sports to give it a shot.

“Get out of your comfort zone. Come to one and maybe you’ll like it. Give it a shot,” Quinn says.

The fun won’t be limited to just dodgeball as the group plans to expand to other games as more people join in on the activities. Other sports and games tossed around for possible future events include basketball, kickball, and variations of different games.

“Come out and join us,” Willis says. “Have some fun.”

He hopes that the turnout for gatherings will continue to grow throughout the rest of the semester and the winter semester as well.
