Delta gets cozy with the CAN Council

Delta students will have the chance to give back this holiday season by making fleece blankets for children involved with the CAN Council. For the past three years, Delta College has partnered with the CAN Council to donate blankets for Christmas.

This year, Shelly Raube, Athletic Director at Delta, is in charge of the event for the student civic engagement project.

“The CAN Council is for child abuse and neglect in this area. There are a lot of ways to give back to organizations, especially the CAN Council, sometimes we just give back our time because some kids are protected. We give theses blankets to children so they can be warm at Christmas time,” says Raube.

Raube encourages students and community members to make any donations possible for this cause so CAN is able to reach their goal of 100 blankets for children in need.

“We’re looking for fleece, anything from 1 ½ to 2 yards to make a complete set with a top and bottom. If [anyone] would want to donate their time, that’d be fantastic, or donate a gift card to one of the stores that sell fleece,” says Raube.

Any donations should be dropped off at student engagement located in A003. The blanket making event will take place all day on Dec. 2 in room N007. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Shelly Raube at michelleraube@delta.edu or at (989)-686-9477.
