Lady Pioneers have an up-and-down two weeks

After starting the season 2-0, the Lady Pioneers entered into the meat of their schedule for the year, and had their home opener against a ranked Schoolcraft.

After losing two matches at a tournament over the weekend, Schoolcraft was looking to take out some frustration. Delta put in a good effort, but they were just overmatched and went down 4-0. Schoolcraft controlled possession in the game and avoided turnovers that plagued the Lady Pioneers. Co-Head Coach Paul Stenglein had this to say about the game:

“We need to possess more and we need to possess better,” says Stenglein. “If we can possess the ball more like (Schoolcraft) did today then next game will be a much different game.”

Later in the week, Delta traveled to Jackson for a conference showdown with the Jets. The Lady Pioneers played a great game, but Jackson had more breaks go their way in a 1-0 heartbreaker. Delta led in shots on goal, possession, and won most of the 50/50 balls during the game, but it wasn’t enough.

“I was pleased with our effort,” said Stenglein. “It was disappointing to play this well and not come away with the win.”

Finally, the Lady Pioneers came back home to play Davenport’s JV team and essentially had their way with them in a 4-0 win. Delta dominated possession and stayed on the attack for most of the game. It was a positive end to a rough stretch of games, and it sets up the team for their upcoming stretch of conference games.

“We’ve got such a great group of girls this year,” explains Stenglein. “They’re very teachable and we’re excited to see where we can go this season.”

The next four games are at home, so make sure to come out and support your Lady Pioneers as they start up conference play.
