Delta takes on Europe

By Erik Hopkins, Reporter.

Delta students and staff ventured across the pond last spring on a travel abroad trip, which made stops in both London and Paris. The 8-day trip was co-led by Joseph Lewis, Associate Professor of English, and Maureen Donegan, Associate Professor of Psychology.

The trip kicked off on May 14 and lasted through May 21, making a memorable week for the two co-leaders and the 15 students that took the leap of international travel. “It was a really good experience for those who chose to go,” says Donegan. The trip was a cultural experience to educate students on the origin of psychology, as well as the history.

The group stopped in places and landmarks such as Southbank, the London Eye, Sigmund Freud’s Museum and The Louvre which concocted an eventful, non-stop and memory packed trip that both the students and staff won’t soon forget. “Somehow, we meshed multiple personalities together and created a memorable week packed full of memories abroad,” says student traveler Aubrie Smith.

Donegan reminisced about one stop in particular that stuck in her mind, The Notre Dame de Paris, which is a gothic cathedral located in Paris, France. “It was very moving, especially for the students.”

However, Smith has a different memory that sticks out. “The most memorable part of the trip, for me personally, was a night in Paris,” says Smith, “Part of our group visited a karaoke bar and let loose a bit. It was such an amazing experience to mingle with people in France in a laid back fashion.”

While there is not an identical trip in motion as of yet, Donegan hopes for one soon. “I do hope we can do this trip again,” says Donegan, “But there are quite a few other opportunities coming up.” However, if students are interested in another History of Psychology tour, Donegan suggests to contact her as soon as possible, as trip planning can take up to two years.
