Colin Meacham, a biomedical engineering major, is now entering his second season on the baseball team, and is ready to show what he has learned.
“My first season on the team showed me how elite the players around the league are,” explains Meacham. “I learned how to adjust to the different level of play, and also gained more confidence in myself as a pitcher.”
Meacham is 1-0 after two starts this season, including a complete game shutout to start off the season. He’s got an ERA of just 2.25, to go with 19 K’s in 12 innings pitched. Even with his early success, Meacham has a team-first mentality on how he plays.
“My goal individually is to be a Joe, which means I do what I can to help put my team in a position to win games,” says Meacham. “As a team we want to have fundamentally sound defense, and capitalize on our opportunities, to win games.”
Meacham explains why he chose baseball: “My grandpa John would always play catch with me when I was little, and was very involved in my baseball career. He passed away when I was 10, so every time I step on the baseball field it is like he is still with me.”
Outside of playing baseball, Meacham is an outdoorsmen at heart.
“I love being outside, I plan to spend a good amount of time this summer out on a boat fishing while listening to some Brantley Gilbert,” says Meacham.
So what’s next for Meacham after Delta?
“My future plans are to play baseball at Lawrence Tech,” says Meacham, “I want to eventually get my PhD in biomedical engineering, and I want to design heart pacemakers or prosthetic limbs.”
